Home Decor: L Shaped Desk

Since my husband and I got married, he had wanted to buy me a desk for me to write on, to give me my own little space at home I could call my own. So we started the search for the perfect desk, only to find giant pieces of furniture for a lot of $$$. We were both looking for something rustic, simple and most of all easy to carry, since we live on the third floor of our apartment building, with no elevator.
But after much search, we came to the realization that what we had in mind we were going to have to make ourselves. So we created a sketch of an L shaped desk, and headed off to Home Depot, Lowes & Ikea to find all we needed. This was the process and the result. <3
We bought: 
3  11"x 46" Flat wood boards (You can find them at Home Depot, Lowes, IKEA)
3  FINNVARD Trestle with shelf (IKEA)
2 Small Dark Walnut Minwax Wood Stain (Lowes)
2 paint brushes (Lowes)
1 Bottle of Wood Glue
We paid about $130 for everything. And it was worth every penny. I love my desk.
We went to Lowes, Home Depot & IKEA to find all the materials listed above.

Set up an old sheet or a plastic cover to make sure nothing else, but the wood, get stained.
Wood stain is different from paint (very important), the wood stain will not completely cover the wood, but it will give it a more rustic feel and still show the wood. Minwax works great, but there are tons of other brands of wood stain you can find at Lowes, Home Depot or any home imporvement store.

Then, put your gloves on and stain the wood evenly. Depending on how light or dark you want the wood to look you can paint extra coats. One coat was enough for the look I wanted.

My husband then went on to stain the FINNVARD Trestles, we purchased at IKEA. ($30/ea)
Let the wood stain dry for about an hour. Then to put all the pieces together, you can drill the wood plates to the frames, for a very firm desk. Or you can glue, with Wood Glue, the flat pieces on to the leg frames, which is what we did. Let dry for about 2 hours.
And VOILA! You're ready to decorate. :)

And that's the final result.

Side Note* After staining, you have to let the stain dry before placing any objects on, or it will stain all your books, etc. ;)
